Principal’s Message
Welcome to Julia Baldwin Elementary School! We have smart and enthusiastic students who engage in a variety of learning experiences on their journey to becoming college and career ready. Our school community is made up of outstanding students, a dedicated staff of caring professionals, hard working parents, and a warm and supportive community. We work together for the success of all of the children at Baldwin Elementary School.
Our curriculum is rigorous and designed to engage students in collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and communication. Our thematic approach allows students to be fully immersed in exploration, inquiry and STEAM based learning for all content areas. In math, students work to solve problems with multiple solutions as opposed to finding just one answer. Balanced Literacy is comprised of a systematic approach to teaching phonological awareness, phonics as well as utilizing the 4 readings and writing. Our teachers in TK-6th use SEAL strategies to promote high academic vocabulary through instruction in science and social studies. We invite you to visit often and join our team as guests and as volunteers.
Technology is a focus for 21st Century Learning. Students use chromebooks in various ways to collaborate with peers on projects, produce writing and presentations, reading and responding to literature, research, as well as for assessment purposes. We make use of our Makerspace, as we learn about engineering and design through design challenges and other STEAM related activities. In 2024, we were awarded the Tech-Cellence Award from the Tech Academy for our partnership and commitment to STEAM Education.
Baldwin parents as well as the community partnerships that we have built contribute greatly to our school community in so many ways. These partnerships support teachers by volunteering, raising funds to enhance our programs, donating time and resources to our staff and students. Throughout the year there are opportunities to participate in Movie Nights, Trunk or Treat, Multicultural Festival, STEAM Night, Math Night, Literacy Night and so much more. Some unique qualities of Baldwin are that we offer lunch time activities like crochete club, board game thursdays, Makerspace STEAM activities, Transportation Tuesday, Fun Art Friday, as well as time to work in our community garden. We are able to offer many opportunities to our students with technology, arts, music, assemblies, and science camp due to the dedication of our staff and the hard work of our parents of which we are grateful.
As a Positive Behavior Intervention Support school (PBIS), our students are acknowledged, recognized and rewarded for their positive behaviors. Baldwin Panthers are Upstanders, Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. These acknowledgements occur school wide, in class and individually. Safety and a warm caring environment is an essential aspect of our school culture. We are very proud of the fact that we have received the Platinum Award for PBIS implementation for the past two years.
Our guiding principle is clear: We empower all students to embrace learning while fostering and inclusive, compassionate and nurturing environment where all students achieve their personal best and build their socio-emotional and physical well-being.
